Experts check bins for chemicals in Tianjin blasts

World Today

The death toll from last Wednesday’s massive blasts in the northern Chinese port city Tianjin still stands at 114. Almost all of them have been identified.

Now all-out efforts are being deployed to track down and clear hazardous chemicals at the blast site. CCTV’s Quentin Vigne filed this report.

More details:

  • Tianjin officials said in a latest press briefing that hazardous chemicals strewn on the ground had all been cleared. But some of the containers are still packed with huge quantities of toxic chemicals.
  • Experts have ruled out the possibility of nerve gas existing in the area. But fear after reports of nerve gas in the blast area were raised even higher as showers fell over the city.
