While the migrant crisis continues to escalate in the Mediterranean, Ireland is one of the countries that has stepped up its efforts to help.

So far this year, the Irish navy has deployed two ships that have rescued over 5,000 migrants fleeing Libya. Ireland continues to cooperate in EU resettlement efforts. Ireland itself has a history of migration. Millions of Irish were forced to flee the country during the potato famine in the 19th century. CCTV Correspondent Lourda Sexton filed this report.
