Firefighters rescued a toddler who got his hand stuck inside an escalator in Changsha of central China’s Hunan Province.

The accident occurred on August 2 at around 21:00 when the three-year-old boy fell down on the escalator while being with his mother at a supermarket in Yuelu District. He got his hand stuck in the gap between the steps and side panel.

When firefighters arrived at the site, the toddler’s mother was holding him tightly while maintenance workers were taking the escalator apart.

As the gap was too small for the firefighters’ large tools to free the boy, they had to use smaller disassembling tools to widen the gap. The boy was freed from his predicament two hours later and immediately sent to a local hospital.

This was the third reported escalator accident to occur in China in a period of eight days. The first accident killed a 30-year-old woman on July 26 in central China’s Hubei Province, while a cleaner in Shanghai had his foot amputated after getting trapped in an escalator August 1.
