China to hold events for 70th anniversary of V-Day

This year marks the 70th anniversary of China’s victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese aggression and the end of the World War II.

The State Council Information Office held a news conference today on preparations for China’s commemoration of the war anniversary. CCTV’s Xing Zheming filed this report.

More details:

  • On the morning of September 2nd, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Council and the Central Military Commission of CPC (Communist Party of China) will award medals to veterans or the relatives of the ‘martyr’. CPC Secretary General Xi Jinping will personally award the medals.
  • Thirty heads of state, leaders of government or representatives of leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, South Korean President Park Geun-hye, and the presidents of Belarus and Vietnam will attend events in Beijing.
  • For the grand military parade, troops from 17 countries will participate for the first time, including Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Belarus, Cuba, Egypt and Afghanistan.
