Siberian tiger gives birth to four cubs in NE China park

A Siberian tiger recently gave birth to four cubs at a park in Qiqihar City of northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province.

The four adorable cubs, which were born on August 16, were the first ever quadruplets to be successfully bred at the park as well as in the city.

The mother tiger endured a difficult labor whilst giving birth to the first cub. In order to avoid any difficulties caused by the mother tiger having insufficient milk, the park arranged for a female dog to help feed the first born. The remaining three tiger cubs were fed by their mother.

“According to the current captive breeding conditions of Siberian tigers, quadruplets are quite a rare occurrence. They can normally give birth to two to three cubs at most. The female tiger delivered four cubs at her first birth. It is quite a lot for her,” said Cao Tianhai, the park’s manager.

Siberian tigers are among the world’s ten most endangered species and are mostly found in northeast China and eastern Russia.
