Battle of Taierzhuang: China’s first front line victory boosted morale

World Today

In a few days, Beijing will host a grand military parade to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, and China’s own victory over Japan on home soil. The Japanese invasion of China in 1937 began with sweeping victories. The modern and well-trained Japanese forces battered the army of the Kuomintang, the then Chinese government. But the Chinese soldiers fought on regardless, and one victory, in a small town called Taierzhuang, helped spur on the 8-year-long resistance.

CCTV’s Han Peng filed this report from Taierzhuang.
