Peking opera comes to New York in September

It’s been a busy period for China-themed productions at Lincoln Center in New York City. Earlier this summer the National Ballet of China performed “The Red Detachment of Women”, one of China’s most popular ballets and last month the Peking Opera is staging two productions.

  • The Peking Opera is in rehearsal at Lincoln Center for “Legend of the White Snake,” a love story between a man and a woman who was once were snakes. It’s an opera adaptation of a Chinese legend that goes back thousands of years. The Peking Opera will also perform “The Jewelry Purse.” Both star Zhang Huoding, who is making her U.S. stage debut.
