WWII anniversary parade in Beijing, promotes power and peace

Thursday, Sept. 3 marked the 70th anniversary of the victory of China’s War of Resistance and World War II. “Victory Day” on Sept. 3 is the date to commemorate Japan’s surrender.

An estimated 30 million Chinese soldiers and civilians died or were wounded in the fighting. Beijing has held a grand military parade. President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech. Foreign leaders and high-level officials were there to share in a common victory. CCTV’s Han Bin was at Tiananmen Square and filed this report.

Veteran soldiers cherish peace in V-Day parade

China’s veteran soldiers enjoyed their greatest honor during this morning’s grand ceremony celebrating Victory Day. The vets say they were deeply impressed by the festivities but emphasized that maintaining the peace is most important, and the best way to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives in all wars. CCTV’s Xu Zhaoqun talked to some of the vets after the celebration.
