Rugby gaining popularity in Peru

World Today

Later in September, the United Kingdom will host the Rugby World Cup. Just two Latin American nations – Argentina and Uruguay – qualified for the tournament but that, say enthusiasts, could one day change as the sport is starting to take off in Peru. CCTV’s Dan Collyns filed this report from Lima.

More details:

  • Once just a game for the elite, particularly those educated at English private schools, rugby in Peru is branching out.
  • With backing from the Peruvian Institute of Sport, rugby is now being taught in five cities across the country.
  • Coaches want to nurture talent by getting players as young as possible.
