Guatemala’s interim president and a presidential candidate cast their votes on Sunday.

While casting her vote in Guatemala City, Presidential candidate Sandra Torres of the National Unity of Hope Party, said she’s ready to make the profound changes that Guatemala needs.

Acting President Alejandro Maldonado also cast his vote – just three days after he took office.

The presidential elections are occurring amid a corruption scandal that forced former President Otto Perez Molina and his Vice-President, Roxana Baldetti, to resign.

Both are currently in custody, accused of being involved in a customs kick-back scheme.

Guatemalans began heading to the polls after they opened early on Sunday to also elect a vice president, members of Congress and the Central American Parliament, and local authorities for municipalities nationwide.
