Colombia attracts filmmakers with big incentives

Global Business

More film productions than ever are being staged in the South American nation of Colombia, and it all comes down to economics. Colombia, it seems, has gone a bit Hollywood.

In 2012, Colombia passed a law to attract more filmmakers to the country. Production companies can save up to 35 percent off production costs by filming in Colombia. And it’s the only South American nation to offer such incentives. For movie productions that have a budget of more than 375 thousand dollars, Colombia’s Film Development Fund offers to pay 40 percent of the total spent on pre-production through post production and 20 percent of logistical costs including accommodations, food and transport.

International production companies are looking to take advantage of generous incentives set forth by the government, as CCTV’s Michelle Begue filed this report from Bogota, Colombia.
