Hungary’s “abysmal” treatment of refugees

World Today

Human rights groups say migrants and refugees are being kept in “abysmal” conditions at detention camps near Hungary’s border.

Hungarian authorities call these camps reception centers, but the fences are about four meters high and topped with razor wire. They are far from welcoming, as CCTV’s Kate Parkinson found out first hand as she filed this report from Roszke, in Hungary.

Volunteers come together at Germany-Austria border

In Passau, a border town in Austria, volunteers met to have a chance for residents to interact with new arrivals and make them feel welcome.

Many of the thousands of people heading to Europe with all of their belongings in hands, were dropped off in Passau. The welcome there will start to prepare them for a new life in Germany.

CCTV’s Guy Henderson filed this report from Passau, Germany.
