China launches ninth HD Earth-observation satellite

China sent its ninth high-definition Earth observation satellite into orbit by a Long March 2D rocket on Monday from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, northwest China’s Gansu Province.

The satellite, Gaofen-9, belongs to the country’s earth observation system which mainly provides services for the Ministry of Land and Resources, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Environmental Protection.

Gaofen-9 can reach up to sub-meter level resolution. It is designed for geographic and resources survey, urban design, legal confirmation of land rights, road network design, crop yield estimation and disaster prevention.
