ISIL violence forces villagers to increase stock of weapons

Since the fighting in Iraq has increased with the expansion of the Islamic State, or ISIL, security has been a major concern for people living there.

Because ISIL attacks villages and often kills civilians, the need to protect oneself and family members has become a vital.

CCTV’s Michal Bardavid took us to one of the sources for protection in Iraq: Sulaymaniyah.

  • Due to safety concerns, security at the Erbil and Sulaymaniyah airports has been tightened. Almost all of the weapons sold there are second hand, and repairing them has become critical. Some shop owners in the market have become efficient gun experts.
