Sunnylands Summit as informal meeting between Xi and Obama

The state visit to the US by Chinese President Xi Jinping is his first trip back to the west coast since June 2013. That’s when Xi and President Obama met at the Sunnylands Summit in Southern California.

It was seen as cementing ties between the world’s two largest economies, but the meeting also helped the economy of Rancho Mirage where the talks were held. CCTV’s Mike Walter recently traveled there to see how times have changed since then.

The meeting was dubbed the “Shirt-Sleeve Summit”. It was a way to discuss issues in an informal atmosphere. CCTV America’s Mike Walter spoke to Capricia Penavic Marshall about this type of diplomacy. She was at the Sunnylands Summit and has organized several State Visits for the White House.
