Typhoon Dujuan hits southeast China

Typhoon Dujuan, the 21st typhoon of this year, made landfall in east China’s Fujian Province on Tuesday morning.

The storm hit the coastal city of Putian of Fujian Province at around 8:50 a.m., packing winds of up to 33 meters per second (74 mph), said the Fujian Meteorological Service.

Fishermen and residents nearby the Dujuan’s landing location have all been relocated to safe areas by local authorities.

The main cities in Fujian cancelled flights to and from Taiwan on Monday. On Tuesday, they’ll suspend all flights in the major three airports in the province until later in the day.

Railway authorities in Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi Province, stopped selling tickets for over 200 trains going through Fujian on Tuesday.

Fujian authorities have issued a Typhoon II emergency response, and so far, around 160,000 people working at sea have been evacuated. More than 32,000 fishing ships have returned to harbor.

The typhoon will also bring gales, downpours and high waves to the neighboring province of Zhejiang, which has evacuated more than 80,000 people so far, and more than 25,000 ships have returned to harbor.
