Jakarta pushes ambitious plan to be slum free by 2019

The National Development Planning Ministry has claimed Indonesia will be “slum-free” by 2019.

Poor sanitation and a severe lack of education among the residents have made the slum areas (over 30,000 hectares across the country) a breeding ground for some of the nation’s deadliest diseases. While the state is confident that it would be capable of tackling the necessary infrastructure projects, convincing the slum-dwellers is another thing.
