Colombia suffering worst drought in history

World Today

Colombia is going through extremely dry conditions and experts are calling it the worst drought in the country’s recorded history.

It’s said to all be fueled, in part, by the El Niño weather phenomenon that brings warm waters across parts of the Pacific.

Much of the country is under an official “red alert” – threatened by water shortages, wildfires or both. – While citizens brace for the worst, the government has earmarked 4.2 million dollars to combat the extreme conditions.

CCTV’s Michelle Begue reports from Santa Marta in Colombia.
