The Heat: Syriza Party wins elections in Greece

The Heat

Newly elected Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras told the Greek people, “We are not walking on clouds, but I think we deserve to feel happy, to feel vindicated, with the people’s choice.”

It was a victory for the Syriza Party in Greece’s recent parliamentary elections. So is it a way forward for the country, or just more of the same?

In a coalition with the right-wing Independent Greeks party, Tsipras must now oversee the implementation of the bailout measures agreed to with the EU.

For a wrap up of what’s next, CCTV’s Filio Kontrafouri reports from Athens.

For more on the way forward for Greece at this point, The Heat was joined by a panel of guests:

  • Christos Panagopoulos is Greece’s Ambassador to the United States.
  • Greek journalist Yannis Koutsomitis also weighed in.
  • Political economist Philippe Legrain joined The Heat from London.
