ISIL’s destruction of artifacts considered cultural genocide

As the militant group ISIL continues to kill and maim through Syria and Iraq, the group has also been systematically demolishing heritage sites and objects dating back thousands of years.

The destruction of ancient artifacts is more than just collateral damage in a time of conflict. It’s considered by many to be a war crime and a form of genocide.
