Israelis take personal defense classes as stabbings increase

Israel’s security cabinet introduced new measures Wednesday to curb a wave of violence that has overtaken the streets of cities like Jerusalem. But many are taking defense into their own hands.

Armed soldiers will now back up operating police units, and military checkpoints are being erected at entrances to Jerusalem. This is the latest course of action intended to boost confidence among Israelis. But Israelis fear falling victim to random stabbings, shootings and other attacks, and are taking matters into their own hands.
