Tony Blair: Xi’s UK visit takes bilateral ties to new high

World Today

President Xi’s upcoming visit to the UK comes as the comprehensive strategic partnership between the UK and China enters its second decade.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair told CCTV that the visit would promote more cooperation.

More details:

  • Britain is the first western country to decide to join the China-led Asian infrastructure investment bank. During a visit to China in September, UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osbourne said Britain wants to be China’s best partner from the West.
  • The UK is now China’s second-largest trading partner in the EU. Britain received 11.8 billion U.S. dollars of Chinese investments last year, a sum larger than that for France and Germany combined.
