Something old is new again in Bogota. The Colombian capital has elected a new mayor, someone who knows the city all too well. Independent Enrique Peñalosa, who was the mayor 14 years ago, won Sunday’s elections.

CCTV America’s Michelle Begue reports from Bogotá.

More details:

  • Enrique Peñalosa got 33 percent of the vote, beating the runner up, former Defense and Labor Minister Rafael Pardo, who received 28.5 percent.
  • The 61-year-old Duke University educated economist was previously mayor of Colombia’s capital from 1998 to 2001. Peñalosa is well known internationally as an expert on urbanization.
  • He is credited with building Bogotá’s mass transit system and rolling out bike paths stretching over hundreds of kilometers.
