UN votes to end US embargo against Cuba

Cuba

The UN voted to condemn the U.S. embargo against Cuba. Only two nations voted against the resolution: the U.S and Israel.

The U.S. objection appears to signal ambivalence about Cuba, and underscores the impact domestic U.S. politics has on the issue.

The U.S. said Cuba failed to take into account progress made since both countries re-established diplomatic ties. But Cuba’s Foreign Minister said Cuba did update the text to recognize progress, and the U.S. was using the content of the resolution as a pretext.
