China ends 35 years of one-child policy

China has ended its 35-year-old one-child policy, and will now allow couple to have two children.

The Communist Party of China announced the new policy on Thursday, triggering wide discussion among the public. While most people are applauding the new policy, some have concerns.

The new policy comes as China’s society and economy develops. China’s population structure has entered a stage of New Normal – low birth rate and increasing aging population.

The shift to a two-child policy will help the future workforce, and a generation ready for retirement.

CCTV’s Hu Chao reports from Beijing.
