Juilliard to open first school outside US in Tianjin

The world-renowned Juilliard School in New York City will open its first school abroad in China’s northern city of Tianjin. The Tianjin campus will not only attract music talents to its top-level education, but also provide the local community with great access to fine arts.

The program has been in the spotlight since it was unveiled by China’s first lady Peng Liyuan, during President Xi Jinping’s state visit to the US in September. It is a highlight of people-to-people exchanges between China and the United States.

The school will also host about 150 concerts and master classes every year, mostly free of charge to locals.

Just a 45 minute high-speed train ride from Beijing, the city of Tianjin is going to be the hub for top musicians and young talents.

CCTV’s Xing Zheming reports from Beijing.
