Chinese President Xi Jinping will travel to Singapore Friday. Two potential outcomes of the visit will be an upgrade of the China-Singapore Free Trade Agreement, and progress on a third government-led project.

Xi’s visit this week is part of a year-long celebration to mark 25 years of diplomatic ties between China and Singapore.

China is Singapore’s largest trading partner and Singapore has been China’s biggest investor since 2013. Singapore’s pro-business environment has attracted more and more Chinese companies.

The business community in Singapore has expressed excitement about President Xi’s visit this week, hoping it will bring more opportunities.

Xi plans to strengthen the bilateral relationship between China and Singapore and chart a way forward, and building on the Singapore experience, Chinese companies can extend their business into other emerging markets in the region.
