Leaders of the 21 member economies of APEC, or the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, got down to business Wednesday.

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech at the CEO Summit, where he highlighted the need for regional integration and sustainable development.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Barack Obama moderated a forum with Alibaba’s Jack Ma and a Filipino startup entrepreneur.

APEC economies plan to bridge the wealth gap

Economic growth is the focus of discussions at the APEC meeting this year, but as most member economies continue to expand, it seems the gap between the rich and the poor has also widened.

Throughout the week, business leaders and leaders of the 21 member economies of APEC have been pushing for ways to help small and medium enterprises expand. The Philippines, for example, has given cash grants to more than four million families through its conditional cash transfer program.

Obama tours Philippine warship, focuses on South China Sea at APEC

The annual APEC meeting is under way in Manila. Leaders from 21 nations gathered to discuss issues such as trade, immigration, and employment.
Some issues arose that were “not” on the agenda. U.S. president Obama confronted Beijing saying bold measures are needed to ease tensions in the South China Sea.
