The Heat: New challenges for Turkey’s president

Refugee and Migrant Crisis

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his party won big in elections earlier in November. But what does that mean for the war against Islamic State, the Syrian refugee crisis, and beyond?

By all accounts it was a stunning political victory. Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party, or AKP, regained the majority it lost in June.

But with victory comes challenges. And Turkey faces a number of them – both in and outside its borders. CCTV America’s Natalie Carney reports.

Anand Naidoo spoke with Hakan Camuz, a political commentator and a director at London-based law firm Stoke & White.

A panel of guests joined The Heat to discuss the challenges facing the Erdogan government in Turkey:

  • Tulin Daloglu, a journalist and commentator.
  • Ilhan Tanir, a reporter with the Turkish newspaper “Cumhuriyet Daily.”
