Nobel Laureate Tu Youyou is in Sweden’s capital Stockholm for the Nobel Prize award ceremony. During a press conference, the herbal expert called for global efforts to combat malaria, which she said is a looming crisis.

CCTV’s Hou Yun reports.

During a press conference in Stockholm Sunday, Tu explained her groundbreaking discovery of artemisinin, which is now a top treatment for malaria.

Tu said that when the medical field could not find a cure for malaria, she studied ancient Chinese medical books and records over 2,000 years old to help her extract artemisinin through a number of experiments.

Tu said her job is still unfinished, and hoped the award could give young scientists faith in their creations.

She will be presented with the coveted award on Thursday, along with the two other Nobel Medicine Prize laureates.
