The second largest school district in the U.S., in Los Angeles, shut down every single school due to what officials call a “credible threat”. Hundreds of thousands of students were affected by the shutdown, and it’s still unclear who made the threat.

After receiving an email late Monday night threatening an attack using bombs, assault rifles and even nerve agents. The Los Angeles Unified School District shut down more than 900 schools, affecting nearly 700 thousand students.
According to officials, the last known IP address of the email was Frankfurt, Germany, but investigators believe the origin was much closer to home.
A very different story in New York City, where a similar email threat was sent to the country’s largest school district on Tuesday. However, officials decided it was a hoax citing errors in the email as well as other questionable claims.
Los Angeles investigators and the FBI are sweeping through each of the roughly 900 schools in the district to make sure they’re safe as well as tracing the source of the email. This threat comes less than two weeks after the attack in San Bernardino that left 14 people dead creating more tension here where nerves are already on edge.
