US Fed. Reserve rate hike has world markets on edge

The U.S. Federal Reserve is widely expected to raise interest rates for the first time in nine years on Wednesday and given the global ramifications, Europe, like the rest of the world, is watching closely.

In more stable times a small move in the U.S. Federal Reserve’s benchmark interest rate would not raise eyebrows in Europe. The EU’s economy, though, remains stagnant with economic growth and inflation hovering just above zero.

The euro is already trading at a near ten-year low against the dollar, but many analysts don’t expect another immediate drop if the U.S. Federal Reserve raises its key rate.
