Opening New Year's champagne with a saber

Popping the champagne cork is its own art form. Those who want to add some flair use a saber to open the bottle.

This year masters in the art of Champagne Sabering, or Le Sabrage in French, will attempt to shatter the Guinness world record for most Champagne bottles sabered in one-minute at 11:59 pm on New Year’s Eve.

Crystal Collado, a sabering expert from the Dover group will be part of the ensemble attempting this feat. She showed Michelle Makori how to wield the blade to pop the cork.

Now strictly speaking Champagne is sparkling wine that comes from the Champagne region of France and about 360 million glasses of the bubbly will be consumed around the U.S. on New Year’s Eve.
