Shanghai port introduces faster security checks for cruisers

The Shanghai border agency working to alleviate long lines at ports due to security checks. CCTV’s Lin Nan reports.

A new e-pass at Shanghai’s Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal means no queueing, and no entry or exit stamps. Travelers just scan their passport and fingerprints, and are free to go.

The aim is to encourage cruising and spur development of the industry.

The border agency has introduced 26 e-pass locations at two international cruise ports in Shanghai. Passengers with the electronic passport, or passport linked to a fingerprint record, can use the service. In 2014, the number of inbound tourists hit 8 million, while the outbound number reached 2.3 million.
