The Heat: US gun control effort

The Heat

Although the United States makes up just about five percent of the world population, it accounts for up to 50 percent of the world’s civilian owned guns.

Guns, and gun violence, have long been emotional issues in the U.S., but while gun owners and their advocates insist on their constitutional right to bear arms, U.S. President Obama is now forging ahead with gun sale reform efforts.

CCTV America’s John Gilmore reports.

The Heat spoke with these experts about gun violence in the United States:

  • Leah Gunn Barrett is the Executive Director for New Yorkers against gun violence.
  • Richard Fowler is a radio talk show host and activist.
  • Deborah Blum is a U.S. attorney in New York.
  • Andrew Leigh is a member of the Australian parliament.
