Thousands stranded at Guangzhou rail station due to weather

Snow and icy weather are delaying China’s annual migration for the Spring Festival.

The railway station in China’s Guangzhou now holds 50,000 passengers, where most of them are stranded.
The waiting hall is full of passengers, some of them have to sit on their luggage to wait for departure.

CCTV’s He Weiwei reports from the Guangzhou rail station.

There is a big screen showing the latest departure times of trains, some of them have been delayed for anywhere from 30 minutes to 5 hours.

Passengers are now in a stable mood, saying that they can understand the situation and will wait patiently until departure.

6,200 policemen have been deployed in the areas around the station to keep order and safety with the station saying it will keep posting the latest departure times on their official website and social media account to inform the passengers of updates.
