Egyptian startup turns winter snack into booming business

Global Business

A young couple in Cairo is using an old idea to fund their new life together. They launched a start up that’s turning a winter snack into a booming business.

CCTV’s Adel Mahrouky reports.

A young Egyptian couple in their mid twenties decided to increase their income with a rather creative idea. Every day after work they meet and take their modified bicycle to sell a delicious sweet and warm winter snack. They even called their startup “by-bike”.

This is a love story that became popular and profitable. Ahmed and Noha are engaged, and like any couple facing the immense expenses of marriage, they decided to do something about it. He owns a travel agency, which is currently a trouble industry in Egypt.

So they decided to create By-Bike, a street food startup that added creativity to a popular Egyptian winter snack. Sweet potatoes.

The idea is very simple, to make sweet potatoes tastier by adding sweet sauces, nuts and fruits. They both have zero cooking experience, but that didn’t stop them.
