106-year-old Virginia McLaurin thrilled to meet Obamas at The White House

An adorable video of 106-year-old Virginia McLaurin meeting U.S. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle is crushing the internet.

It already has over 31 million views on Facebook after being posted Saturday.  McLaurin’s visit was part of Black History Month events at The White House. She was born in 1909.

In December 2014, “Ms. Virginia” posted a petition to The White House asking to fulfill her dream of meeting the president. A push on social media helped her get the meeting.

Her friends on a Facebook community  page have been very active in helping her with housing and care.

President Obama, please meet with 106 year old Virginia McLaurin! She would love to meet you and the whole family.

Dear President Obama,

My name is Virginia McLaurin, I live in Washington DC. I was born in 1909. I’ve never met a President. I didn’t think I would live to see a Colored President because I was born in the South and didn’t think it would happen. I am so happy and I would love to meet you and your family if I could.

I remember the times before President Hoover. I remember when we didn’t have any electricity. I had a kerosene lamp. I remember the first car model Ford.My husband was in the Army. I lost my husband in 1941. I’ve been in DC ever since. I was living here when Martin Luther King was killed.

I know you are a busy man, but I wish I could meet you. I would love to meet you. I could come to your house to make things easier. I pray to the Lord that I would be able to meet you one day.
