The cease-fire in Syria that began at midnight last Friday has brought a reduction in hostilities for the first time in the five-year war that has killed more than a quarter million people, displaced half of Syria’s population, and flooded Europe with refugees.

But with the opposition and Syrian government blaming each other for more than a dozen violations, countries sponsoring the peace process met in Geneva Monday to deal with charges that the deal is unraveling.

CCTV’s Natalie Carney reports from Istanbul.

The Heat spoke to the following guests about the cease-fire:

  • Alexander Nekrassov, former Russian journalist and Kremlin advisor.
  • Emma Ashford, a visiting research fellow with the Cato Institute, focusing on Russian and U.S. foreign policy and the politics of the Middle East.
  • Mohamad Ali, a Syria-based journalist.
