Mexican students create battery powered by exercise

Imagine charging your smartphone by exercising. A group of students in Mexico City has created a battery that can offer four hours of service from body energy.

CCTVs Martin Markovits reports.

Public universities in Mexico are not especially known as centers for technological innovation. It’s tough when many don’t have the resources or funding like their counterparts in Europe and the United States. That hasn’t stopped three students from Mexico’s Instituto Politecnico Nacional from making a wearable battery charger for smartphones.

It’s a device that gets energy from physical activities like running, walking and biking. Their clean energy innovation has already received world recognition.

The battery project was a finalist at the Feteps Technology Fair in Brazil, placing third in the international competition notable because the students got little support from their university or the Mexican government.
