Three dead, three missing in Southwest China factory collapse

One person is dead after an collapse at a construction site buried seven people on Friday in southwest China’s Yunnan province, local authorities said.

The accident occurred at around 4 p.m. while the seven workers were building a wall at a factory in Mengla County, according to the information office of Dai Autonomous Prefecture of Xishuangbanna.

Several were pulled from the debris, at least one person is receiving emergency treatment. Three people remain buried in the debris.

More than 100 rescuers are searching for the buried workers.

The collapse took place just days after one person died and 35 others were injured in a four-story building collapse, also in Yunnan province, the People’s Daily reported.

That accident occurred at a construction site around 5:46 p.m. on Wednesday in the Puzi village of Kunming, capital of Yunnan. The four-story building, which is under construction, collapsed and buried dozens of workers, the emergency office of Kunming said in a statement on Thursday.

More than 220 police, fire fighters and rescuers, along with 42 excavators and other vehicles were brought in for the rescue mission. A total of 35 people were pulled out of the debris and sent to local hospitals.

Police said the building was a public venue used for village gatherings.
