Medical data increasingly at risk of cyberattacks

U.S. hospitals and clinics are increasingly facing cyber attacks, often aimed at obtaining valuable patient information. Medical providers said they’re busier than ever trying to ward off hackers.

CCTV America’s Hendrik Sybrandy reports from the U.S. state of Colorado.

On February 5th in California, hackers seized control of computer systems at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. The hospital regained control of its data by paying a ransom of $17,000 in Bitcoins, two weeks later.

As more and more patient information is shared on the Internet, securing that data is proving more difficult than ever.
