Mixed reality: Microsoft Build showcases future tech toys

World Today

Microsoft’s largest annual developer conference, Build 2016, wrapped Friday. The event managed to make a splash this week by showing off some new technologies, including HoloLens.

CCTV America’s Mark Niu reports from San Francisco.

Attending Holographic Academy feels like going to a Disneyland show. But in this show, attendees remain grounded in reality while playing with what’s not yet reality. It’s best described as mixed reality.

Information about the real world is continuously collected for use in the holographic world. Developers rushed across the Microsoft Build expo floor to line up for hours for Destination Mars, a HoloLens Project designed with NASA.

BMW even showcased its new Microsoft Azure-based cloud service for the U.S. called “BMW Connected.”

So whether its cloud computing for smarter cars or holograms for driving richer experiences, Microsoft is betting big on tools that could re-shape computing as we know it.
