Brazil facing political, social challenges before the Olympics

The world is getting ready for the 2016 Olympic Games, but the host country is facing some major challenges.

Brazil is sinking into a deep recession and the president may be impeached.

CCTV America’s Paulo Cabral takes a look at how these circumstances are affecting the upcoming games.

In the run up to the FIFA World Cup two years ago, thousands of Brazilians took to the streets to protest. They said a country with so many problems shouldn’t spend billions of dollars on a big sporting event.

As the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro approaches, citizens aren’t complaining as much about the project and now most of the work seems to be on schedule for the competition.

But, the question remains – what will be the impact of the country’s current political turmoil, with anti-government protests and an ongoing impeachment process that could affect preparations.
