As Balkan route closes, fears grow of influx in Spain

World Today

With the route from Turkey to Greece becoming more difficult to navigate, there are fears that refugees will look for other options.

Although some 15,000 migrants and refugees crossed into Spain from Morocco last year, that number is significantly less compared to the central and eastern Mediterranean paths.

But authorities in Spain are readying themselves in case that changes. CCTV America’s Dan Williams reports.

The number of refugees and migrants reaching Spain’s two African enclaves jumped significantly last year up 55 percent on 2014.

And with the eastern Mediterranean route now becoming more treacherous and protected, authorities here are preparing for even greater numbers.
