Tensions continue along Greece-Macedonia border

In Greece and the vast tent camp in Indomeni, refugees are still reeling from a weekend confrontation with Macedonian police.

Officers fired tear gas and rubber bullets on crowds massed at the border.

CCTV’s Kate Parkinson reports from Idomeni.

Since Macedonia closed it’s border, the numbers have swelled at this makeshift camp. There is growing frustration among the refugees that they cannot continue their journey.

At the weekend there were rumors that the border may open so many people packed their bags and headed to the frontier. Instead, according to some refugees, there was a clash with members from the Macedonian army.

Medical charity Doctors Without Borders said they were overwhelmed by the number of people needing treatment.

“In total we saw about 300 people, in 2 different locations. Suffering from tear gas and also from wounds that were inflicted by rubber bullets,” Jose Hulsenbek, Doctors Without Borders said.

The United Nations said the incident has prompted some people to leave the camp, particularly those with small children.
