Carlos Acosta’s new ballet company has proved a sensation here, performing all week to packed houses in Havana’s emblematic Grand Theater.

Acosta is one of the most famous ballet dancers of his generation, captivating audiences with both his athleticism and artistry. Now retired, age 42, he has returned home to put together a company of his own.

The company has the full support of the Cuban authorities, but with average ticket prices the equivalent to a dollar and a half, the plan is to become a touring company.

With Acosta’s international reputation, his company has secured bookings in New York for next year, even before opening night in Cuba.
