International foods on display at Singapore trade show

Americans are not alone when it comes to the love of foreign cuisines. Asian consumers are now spending their cash to please their taste buds with international food.

And Singapore claims it has it all, when it comes to goods from the East or the West.

CCTV’S Miro Lu reports.

Singapore believes there is no better place to promote food than itself. At Asia’s premier trade event for food and hospitality industry, Food and Hotel Asia, more than 3,100 exhibitors from across the globe showcase a huge selection of food products, services and technologies to Asian buyers.

As China’s middle class expands, so does their growing appetite for imported food.

China’s Yonghui Superstores has signed an agreement with Singapore Manufacturing Federation to bring some iconic Singapore flavors to its 400 outlets in China.

“Compared with local products, people think imported food items are safer and healthier. On top of that, there’s demand for new things among young people,” Guo Rongzong, general manager of the Food & Supplies Division at Yonghui Superstores said.
