Cruise passengers get first hand look at Cuban culture in Havana

Americas Now

The first U.S. cruise ship landed in Havana Monday. Many of the 700 passengers are immersing themselves in Cuban culture.

But who are the people who made the voyage and how do they feel about making history? CCTV’s Nitza Soledad Perez is travelling with them.

Tuesday was the first full day for cruise travelers in Havana. They engaged in lots of sightseeing and picture-taking and enjoyed Cuban music.

The tour included the famous Colon Cemetery, one of the city’s most famous attractions, and a sustainable farm-restaurant.

Just 24 hours earlier, this group was making history, sailing on the first U.S. cruise ship to dock in Havana in nearly 40 years.

As the ship approached Cuba, one could see people waving from the shore.

Cubans are hoping their American visitors will bring change to the island.

From Havana, the cruise heads to Cienfuegos, a city on the southern coast of Cuba, writing another page of a historic voyage.
