Authorities are in the process of tearing down hundreds of buildings considered unsafe in Nairobi. But residents are not happy about it — they don’t know where to go.

The buildings are coming down in Huruma, where a collapse last week saw more than 40 people killed. The first building targeted was a network of eight low-rise buildings housing around 600 people. Residents have been voicing their distress.

So why are so many buildings in Kenya deemed unsafe? CCTV America’s Asieh Namdar spoke to Raul Figueroa. He’s the CEO of Questworks, a consultancy firm in Nairobi that focuses on design, planning, and engineering.
